PC Build

So my friend wants to build a desktop gaming pc but unfortunately his budget is $1000 (approx. when converted to LKR 100,000/-)

Heres the build; (prices are in US$ therefore not exact)

Core i3 4160 3.6Ghz (4th Gen.) $155
Gigabyte B85M-D3H $120
Sapphire Radeon R9 380 Mitro 4GB DDR3 $380
Team Elite Plus 4GB 1600MHz Performance RAM $40
Team Ultra L5 120GB SSD $90
Seagate Barracula 1TB 7200 RPM $80
FSP Hexa+ 550W Power Supply $80
Coolermaster Elite K380 $80
Total Cash Discount : $15

Therefore total price: $1040 (approx.)

Any suggestions/recommendations would be great! Thanx ;)

Re: PC Build

That's fairly decent for mid to low range... What does he hope to run?

Re: PC Build

Umm, good games at decent settings, games such as GTA V / the high demanding games, but at decent/low settings..

Re: PC Build

I'm having a really hard time with working out if that will run it cause it's end of last year/start of this year tech and it's all pretty mid range but for a gaming desktop it'd be best to have more RAM than you think you need so 8GB would be preferable... I'm not too sure I'm really tired right now so I can't quite help you but tomorrow I will definitely be able to help you...

Re: PC Build

No prob, I thought the RAM doesnt really matter, hmm. I saw some vids of them comparing 4gig, 8gig and 12gig Rams, all of them gave similar results when tested on a game. But im open for other suggestions, so every help matters.

Re: PC Build

Dont get the r9 380 it isnt worth it, instead get the gtx 960 (lower heat, power consumption, and price)
The money saved from the gpu can be used to upgrade your ram from 4 gb to 8 gb
Also, in this specific scenario i would recommend him to ditch the ssd in general since he's tight on budget and use that cash instead to get a i5-4460

All this is the best advice you can get tbh. You should really make him listen to Ray.

Wow. Never thought I'd say that.

Re: PC Build

Yeah the SSD is not all that great to have unless you are going to use the SSD for the OS in which you should only get a much smaller size. The why I would do it is have a 60 GB SSD for the OS and system files and have a 1 or 2 TB HDD for everything else. This could come out to about the same price as the solo SSD. Very cost effective there. Also $380 for RAM? There has to be some better deals than that...
