Re: wtf

This happens to all admins.

It is a great curse bestowed upon all those who bear the red flag. They become corrupted by it's power and suffer eternal damnation through unimaginable and seemingly out of the blue IRL problems such as school, vacations and heart problems.

The real story of SmG's beginnings go something like this-

It started long ago, long before SmG as you know it existed. Before Cloud and HoaX ever picked up H2V, there were other clans and they too were called SmG. Some where halo too, but the original incarnation started with an UT99 clan. In that clan, there were three founders; money$hot, tripledice666, and PostalBro. These three hosted servers out of money$hot's house, while PostalBro managed the servers and tripledice built their website. In case you aren't already noticing, there are similarities between these three and all other incarnations of SmG, including this one. Let's call them the founder trinity for convienence. Part of the curse is that these roles are always fufilled by someone at some point in the clan.

Anyways, back to the original trinity. Their SmG wasn't taking off as well the three had hoped. One day, seemingly out of the blue, a user named "belle" registered on their site. She started a thread (as this was the days of textboards and BulletinBoards, there was no php or vbulletin yet, or at the very least they forum packages weren't common) and asked them if they desired to have more activity, and so they of course said yes. She then asked them if they would agree to merge with her clan, which had more members with more activity. In exchange, she also would gain founder status.

The original trinity deliberated on this for a while, and finally came to the conclusion that they did not want to sacrifice their positions and the prospect of their dream clan for some stranger. Upon hearing this, she replied "Are you sure? There is money to be made if we get large enough". But still they refused. So she gave up, muttering only one post before disappearing off the board.

"make sure to check the brakes."

They thought nothing of it of course, and went on there merry way. For months after that, SmG continued to grow and slowly but surely grew into a much more established clan in the UT99 community. And soon, they forgot all about that user named "belle". But then it happened. money$hot's mother was in a terrible car accident. She was in the hospital and had suffered many broken bones, internal bleeding and needed extremely expensive surgery and be bedridden for weeks. Their insurance would not cover all of the medical bills, and money$hot...well he had a history of being fiscally irresponsible. He needed money badly. Suddenly, out of the blue, he remembered Belle's words. "there is money to be made if we get big enough."

He was desperate. Behind the other two founders backs, he struck a deal with Belle, who's clan was famous in the UT99 community for being a haven for spammers and cynical douchebags. And so was the first nail in the coffin. The next was far worse. Upon finding out about this, the other two founders were outraged that he would strike a deal behind their back after they expressedly agreed not to. money$hot could not tell them that his mother was in the hospital, since he would have to admit that he had no money- a bad that because he was deeply in the red because of the servers. money$hot was too proud to give up on either side of the spectrum. He wanted to believe he could micromanage his way out of this financial mess by himself. So instead, he said nothing. Belle, on the other hand, ostracized him relentlessly, only further instigating the argument. Even though she agreed to the deal herself, she had told the other admins she was under the assumption that they, too, had agreed.

In the end, money$hot came clean to the other admins while Belle was on vacation. But something had to be done about her members. These cynical and agressive shitposters, gave SmG a bad reputation, but Belle was adament in defending them. In her eyes, they were only being their true selves. The internet was a place where social rules of engagement didn't apply. Belle was a "people watcher" kind of personality. She loved seeing human beings in all their emotions and trials, and was deeply fascinated by different peoples personal stories and trials. She reveled in the community she had created. If they wanted to rid their image of toxicity, they needed to get rid of her first. So they did. Upon returning, she was infuriated, and so were the many members who felt she cared about them. Dissent was banned however, and any back talk was considered something to be squashed. But dissent was not widespread either- the original trinity had convinced most members that her encouragement of "toxic" behavior was the reason the clan was doing so bad. They told the members that Belle had said and did things that weren't true, and soon they didn't 'to need to lie- the majority of the clan became indifferent or hostile towards her. While PostalBro, who was often the voice of reason, was more hesitant in doing so, he nonetheless participated in it as well. Belle gathered a few members who were willing to leave with her, and vowed that in their unnecessary quest for hospitality, they would find themselves cursed with spam, drama and inactivity from the top down for the rest of time.

And to this day, every incarnation of SmG has since been troubled by such things. One of the incarnations, a short lived World of Warcraft guild named SmG, tried to "break the curse" by relinquishing the clan to Belle, but she was nowhere to be found. And so SmG lives on, cluttered with drama, hoping that one day Belle will appear again, take back what was hers and defeat the curse that plagues them.

Re: wtf

It wasn't that time consuming or anything. Only took a few mins.
