But it wasn't...it was one big shitfest.

You can claim that gun violence would go down if you banned guns, but the fact of the matter is that gun violence has been in decline in America steadily for the past two decades. In fact, there are many areas of crime that have been in decline in recent decades.

So mass shootings have stopped in Australia since the gun ban? Great, but don't try and apply that everywhere. Just look at Mexico if you want proof of that. There are many more factors involved in this argument than just "are guns banned", and if you believe that the situation is really that black and white then you are utterly naive.

It gets pretty irritating when you people try and act as though you have a grasp on the situation when you don't. You acknowledge things are fucked up here, but you have no idea how or why. Then you get convinced that things like guns are the problem, when in reality gun related deaths are relatively low. More people die from cancer, heart disease, car accidents and even drowning then they do gun related deaths. Another thing people forget to mention is that America has a much, MUCH larger population than the other Anglosphere countries combined. So reducing those crimes to an average, per-capita basis makes them even less so.

Rebel. You are making yourself stupid right now. When we said taking guns away won't stop criminals. How do you think tight background checks will do?

If it was tightened those with a criminal history wouldn't be able to get guns legally off of the government, over a month or two (don't know how slow your cops are) the 'black market' dealers will be caught and won't be able to purchases and thus sell guns, therefore a majority of the criminals won't actually have any.
