They're eight of the oldest universities in the country, and have "connotations of academic excellence, selectivity in admissions and social elitism."

More importantly, they have ridiculously high financial endowments so they all have a lot of research going on and end up being ranked pretty well around the world.

Nah with their massive endowments they give a lot of financial aid grants so you don't have to pay it back - there was some statistic that harvard was cheaper than state schools

Pretty sure that only applies to the top 10% of students at harvard, the rest 90% still have to pay.
