in my country me are allowed a a4 sized sheet and we may fill it anyway we like and it is called a "cheat sheet"

I have noticed that ever so recently I have been allowed to bring notes/a notebook to different tests. I don't know if this is just a thing in my school/country or whether this is something that is commonly done as it is the first I have experienced it.    

It’s commonly done in middle schools for open book tests and such

Here we have 2 type of tests:

Ones that allow having books and notepads as help(but they're not of any help)

Ones that don't allow any book or notepad on the desk. Usually it's a test with definitions you have to write down
