Well the older the halo the bigger the skill gap, at least that's how i look at it. The single player is great on all of them. Multiplayer some are better than others. Most of us are going to be bias, so i would suggest just trying it out yourself.

Halo is definitely hugely skilled based because it is an arena shooter. People start of with the same weapon and abilities so it is hugely based off of skill.

Well the strategy side of the Halo series, also known as Halo wars. There are 2 installments in the series, both great games for fans of RTS games and people who love war games. The game requires a good amount of skill for there is a lot of things involved in the game, its not to hard to learn, but difficult to master.

On the older Halo games, the lack of skill has increased due to a lack of players, plenty of people getting annoyed on Halo games, like Halo 3, due to a lot of foreign people (Mexicans, Australians, Finland, yeah those people have terrible connection/host), whereas in the newer games, it does require a lot more skill because of the better connection/host. When it comes to the Campaigns, The older Halos definitely have a better story, Halo 4/5 ruined it by being too based around Cortana. It got boring fast. The series is worth playing but unless you're going onto Halo 3/ Reach with a brilliant connection, you're not going to have much fun. The best Halo game for online has to be 5, and the best for Campaign would be a draw between 3 and Reach.

I'd play through the original trilogy at least for sure. You can get halo CE on PC if you know where to look and halo 2 project cartographer includes the campaign. Or just get halo 5 from game pass but it is the least liked game in the main series.

It really depends what Halo you're looking to play. Halo 5 isn't too skill oriented, as Halo 3 is extremely skill oriented IMO. In Halo 5 if you're about to die all you have to do is press the B button and it's an easy way to get out of dying but, with Halo 3 you always have to be able to out play your opponent so you won't die. But Halo 5's multiplayer is still very fun and fast paced, if you're looking for fast paced chaos Halo 5 is a good one.
