Does gaming cause violence?

I remembered in Philosophy-Psychology we had this topic, playing games 'technically' doesn't trigger violence.

Whatchu think?

RE: Does gaming cause violence?

I think it all depends on the person playing the game. is she/he capable of differentiating between a game and real life? is she/he mentally unstable? Are they easily influenced? Games are generally made to pass up time or have fun. are they capable of understanding the main point of games?

Certain games are supposed to try and trigger you. But you can either get affected by it or stay calm. "Getting over it" for example, if you're a person with anger issues, definitely not the game for you. There's a reason why games have age ratings lmao.

And yeah games are there to create distance with reality and refresh your mind and stress. Nothing to take seriously.

I think violent kids are the fault of the parents. It's their choice on hoe to raise their kid and it is their fault if the kid turns out bad.

RE: Does gaming cause violence?

Games in itself don't raise violence on matured minds just the competitiveness of the person playing it,I think that it's very relative,as you see,it's very dependent on how mature the child is,if he/she know that everything that is happening is fake and understands that any action that is happening there is unrelated to real life and that the consumption of the media should be taken as an hobby, just like too much movies or books will push other stuff like responsibilities aside so do games, and so they should be regulated by the parents on time spent on it,this on 8-10 y kids, wouldn't let any 5 y kid play COD.
But every household is different and every kid is different and rules should be made by each parent for each kid,but some just can't or don't want to do that.

exactly this. if a psychopath happens to be a gamer and goes about on a killing spree, that doesn't necessarily mean gaming is bad. most people who commit crimes may already be aggressive. i don't think gaming makes them aggressive. if anything, it's bs made up by parents and school.

RE: Does gaming cause violence?

video games imo don’t cause violence at all, also if the person that is playing the game is underaged and they’re playing a killing based game it could warp their minds slightly into thinking it’s ok to kill, however that individual shouldn’t be playing games like that at a young age smh. i’ll play something that is voilent and never have the slightest urge to kill someone. people will kill over anything like fr if you mess up somebody’s pizza you may get shot just saying  Lul

In reality it's all how your parents raise you. "Hey little Tommy, you do know that grand theft auto is a real crime like hitting people with you car right?"
