Almost all of halo's stock maps are unbalanced for 1's but if this tournament is in way looking to measure skill, the maps most effective are- chillout with powerups, ratrace and wizard.
Since all the participants are members of the clan, you can consider-derelict(carousel), prisoner, hangemhigh(?) But all these maps have strong advantages in the upper levels and any proficient player will not lose control of the game once they gain access to the sniper/ powerups.
Strongly recommend not using bloodgulch as a map for 1v1. Even though we've all had our good times memories on it, its too big and really silly to play a versus on. Spawn killing is a problem as has been mentioned the other thing is that you can simply play 'hide and seek' which extends the game for way too long and makes it boring. There are some balanced custom maps for 1s but I don't remember them.
