Gaming laptop, heating an issue?

So I received my Asus GL551JW wh71 wx laptop 5 days ago. I ran Sleeping Dogs, Crysis 2 (only have these games atm) at Ultra and it seems that the laptop gets pretty warm close to the trackpad. However there's no difference (lag/ frame rate drop) in game play.

I didn't take a risk and switched it off once it became too hot. So this happens after like 15-20 mins of gaming. At other times it is pretty cool plus I tried with some moderate demanding games and it was pretty cool.

I did some research but I'm not satisfied yet. So asking you guyz whether it's okay for me to continue gaming when it's hot.

Added Info: I play with the AC adapter plugged in.
The heat does not rise after it has reached a certain temperature.
Haven't used any applications to check the temperatures. Anyone know of a good app?

And is it safe for me to play games when it's hot? And since this is a 800$ laptop I can't expect a good cooling system, therefore is it common among other mid range gaming laptops?

Depends how hot it is, as you cant expect it to be cold when you are playing a game xD

Make sure that the bottom of the laptop can circulate the air and isnt flat down on something

There are four rubber things (dunno what they are called) which hold the laptop in place so other than that I place it on a flat table.

how hot does it get when you're gaming?
use coretemp, pcmeter, cpu-z to monitor your temps.

While gaming, Sleeping Dogs (Max Sett.):

Okay so left it there for a while and one core touched 80, while the other three ~77.

EDIT: Left it further and now all cores dropped around 75.

Sounds like a hardware issue, or you need to open the laptop and give your fan a clean.

Are you sure? I read 70 - 85 is normal temperatures while heavy gaming.

Re: Gaming laptop, heating an issue?

My friend used to own a gaming laptop which also got really hot in 10-15 min , so he got himself something like that http://www.coolermaster.com/mobile/note ... otepal-xl/
and he said it was really good so you might consider getting one of these (but I never had a laptop myself so I don't really know :P)

For a laptop its fine, even a desktop is fine at those temps.

@flash - if you're really concerned about your temps, you can get a cooling pad

Oh okay Ray. I'm just scared that it might damage the hardware T_T.

Since it's normal for laptops at that temp, I'll play carefully till I can get a cooling pad. And Ray could you do the honours and recommend a cooling pad? Well around ~15$ would be fine. Thanks for the info and Thanks in advance for the pad.

@Blue: I'll keep your suggestion in mind thanx.
