Any advice on reducing lag while recording with Xfire?

I wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the videos folder. I used to be able to record without it effecting my gameplay. Recently though I shut my cable off and hooked a computer up to my flatscreen and have been streaming netflix as a substitute. I really like being able to play and have it on in the background.

When I'm not recording, gameplay is normal, but whenever I try to record it gets really choppy and laggy. I've reduced the video and audio settings in game to the minimum. It helped a little, but it's still difficult to play while recording. I'm pretty newish to Xfire so if there are some setting in that, that I can tweak for better performance I'd appreciate the advice.

I'd suggest getting fraps and using that instead

Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

Just tried it out. That is much better, the 30 second limit is kind of a bummer, but it's just the cost of being cheap I guess. Thanks.

It's a desktop, but a pretty cheap one. 1366x768. I know close to nothing about that sort of stuff so I disabled themes and kept everything else at the recommended settings.

No. It makes gameplay really funky. I've been using 800x640 I just tried it out at that res to see if it helped with recording and I was getting 5fps and it was totally unplayable. If I change it to 800x640 on my desktop, everything is way bigger than it needs to be.

What res were you able to record on before on your desktop?
and what res are you trying to record now on your flatscreen?

The same. 800x600.

My OP was a little too detailed I think. The flatscreen and the computer hooked up to it isn't the one I play halo on. It's a separate computer hooked up to the same DSL router. The computer I play halo on is the same one I used to record on. The only thing that's changed is me hooking the second computer up to the router and streaming netflix while playing on a different computer.

I seriously don't understand your situation, are you saying that you were only playing halo and now have added Netflix streaming in the background to the same router? If so your netflix is probably straining your IC. Don't stream = no lag
