I'll sum up the Australian medicare system:
You can go to see a GP for free as long as you present your medicare card to the receptionist. If you don't have one, then you get charged for going.
Also hospital fees are greatly reduced and if it would cost 10,000, instead it costs like 1000 or something. This all comes out of taxes and shit though.
