Re: rip sister team

This was one of the reddit posts.

For those unaware:
In OGN Spring 2014, Group A had these 4 teams:
KT Arrows, with their roster of Arrow, Rookie, and of course Kakao, with his infamous comments about destroying the SKT org shortly before drawing them out of the bucket. Pretty big expectations, hyped coming into spring as KTs "new hope".
SKT K, Faker & co, coming off their S3 Worlds win and absolute stomp of OGN Winter.
SKT S, Marin and crew, SKT K "little" sister team, who were good but not great.
Prime Optimus, don't even remember who was on this team, they were bottom of the barrel of OGN teams. Seen very much like we see Taiwanese teams now... not bad like wildcards, they are pretty decent, but you expect to win vs them every time.
The group opens with the SKT clash, and they split series 1-1. The next matches go as expected, with the outmatched Prime O losing to SKT K and KTA. Then a shocker, SKT S smashes KTA 2-0, very surprising. Completely deflates the KTA hype....
And Kakao doesn't give a fuck. KTA goes on to shock everyone and 2-0 SKT K anyways, putting SKT back to 3rd in the group (top 2 advance) with 1 match left: SKT S v Prime O.
Of course, the initial reaction is that SKT K is out. Surely at worst, SKT S go 1-1 with Prime O, putting K out. Then people realize... what if SKT decides they really want K in? A complete loss from S forces a tiebreaker... and sure enough it happens. SKT S, after going 1-1 with SKT K (still considered above everyone else) and 2-0ing KTA (very much one of the most hyped teams coming into spring) loses 0-2 to Prime Optimus. A team that has no players still playing pro, a team looked at like a free win. So when they lost, it really brought the conspiracy theorists out of the woodwork.
And when they lost the tiebreaker to K, a lot of people jumped on board. People seemed split down the middle on rigged-not rigged, but it honestly died down pretty quick.
And now... just a few days ago, the entire SKT coaching staff was let go. Seemed crazy, considering that staff had just won worlds a year ago, waxed the competition in OGN winter, and seemed somewhat competitive in spring and summer. And now Kespa, not Riot but Kespa, axing orgs having a second team?
Idk how wild it seems to others, but to me it lines up really well...

TL;DR match fixing in Korea.
