That's because you are a pleb and both you and Adam Smith make baseless assumptions about human nature which are contradicted, ironically, by human nature.
For instance, the assumption that people who don't get paid don't work, that people have no care for others unless it personally benefits them economically, and that people are rational economic actors, and so a market will always provide what people need. Baseless and wrong assumptions on all accounts.
