The idea is that the FCC is taking away net neturality and giving the isp companies control over chosing what websites you can and can't see and the option to throttle speeds for certain sites or services. There was a model I saw where they based your acess to websites the way they would cable or satellite channels and charging what they what per "package" or upgrade. I think the petitions at least tell the FCC or other companies that we are aware of what they are trying to do. I'm not in the States... But even though I'm not... The fear is that is companies in the U.S. are successful they will push this agenda elsewhere.

Just something worth keeping an eye on.
