I will have to say, that comment there, lacks any logic.
MIT and Harvard (and universities in that tier) publish hundreds of ground breaking research papers and journals each year.
Not just that the kind of research done at these places is absolutely astounding.
This is just one of the factors that give them a high ranking.
If a college is ranked very high on various magazines/websites, its never because of advertising.
