if you're an HP user then never upgrade to Win 8. My friend had an ever heating HP, tried if Win 8 would be the solution but HP never released drivers for it. He reverted back.
You should check if your manufacturer has drivers ready before upgrading. Windows 8 is fine though, I don't have anything against it. Performs well, most notably the boot.
