I think one reason they are doing this is to support Split Screen and make forge more powerful creating more bigger custom games.

Forge alone is amazing for Halo 5 but it is still limited. They also had to get rid of Split screen to maintain the 60 fps.

Also with the Xbox One S and Xbox One Scorpio, they will bring back Split Screen.
