On the one hand:
The severe vastness of the universe presents almost certain odds there is intelligent life similar to us. This begs the question of whether it has progressed as we have, or have they surpassed. What if to other species out there, we are not even on their radar due to how inferior we are? What if they are so vastly superior, they transcend this material plain? Or, what if we are just lucky that they have not come across us, what with how loud we are as a planet, constantly broadcasting radio signals for over 100 years, radiating out into space till it merges with the white noise of the Big Bang.

On the other:
What if we are a fluke? In the primordial soup of microbes, one perfect condition after another happened, resulting in what we now call existence, so fine tunes with conditions not observed in the see-able universe. Are we merely yelling into the void, responding to the echos of our cries, despite for some affirmation that "We hear you, we see you, humanity!"? Will our blink of society be left to nothing and crumble to the ash it rose from, great armies laid waste and brilliant minds forever lost?
