There's a particular group of extinct animals called Thecodonts. Dinos, Birds and Reptiles evolved from them. Technically, it's wrong to say that birds came from Dinos. These Thecodonts gave rise to Dinos, Pteranodon, and Archaeopteryx. The Archaeopteryx is a missing link between Thecodonts and birds. The Archaeopteryx essentially had all features of a Pteranodon with an addition of feathers and air sacs, the latter is a feature of present day birds. Fossils of Archaeopteryx were recovered in the last century proving the theory of evolution of birds from Thecodonts.
