macro photography

for the photo nerds:
I was about to get eos rebel t3 but i decided to get the d3200 instead since the lens was newer with vrII even tho it costed aaround ~$100 more.
I know the lens provided in the kit isnt fit for macrophotography but buying an additional macro lens is incredibly expensive. So my question is has anyone bought and used an extension tube as a cheaper alternative and how were the results? (compared to a macro lens)

Photography is not my strong suit but I assume that grain would more prevalent due to the the focus on the extension's lense.

Or something....
