SmG Ray88 Wrote:Exactly its a niche product, you're paying a premium exactly like apple products.

A much lower premium if you're smart.

At least you're not overpaying too much(Unless you go for a new Alienware, in which case, you are at least getting something more capable than a Macbook @ it's price)

I advise to go for MSI/Clevo laptops if you need one, but if you like premium feeling and looks, Alienware/Acer

In the argument of Gaming Desktop Vs. Gaming Laptop, it all boils down to User preference
Now at this point, Ray would say 'Well that's completely retarded, who in their right mind would pay X amount for a gaming laptop when they could pay less for more?' again, completely down to User preference and current situations.

Besides, you didn't factor in the peripheral costs too :/
Did you expect people to use their imagination when using their rig only PC?

Of course at this point, I'm joking

I already talked about why someone would choose a portable over stationary, I didn't bring up things like mouse, keybaord, monitor, etc since you can get deals with cases and such on Newegg, eBay, Amazon, Slickdeals, etc. where you'd get a case, 8gb kit, monitor for $100 or so (Usually with refurbished monitors)

Also, kinda would expect the argument of "a TV can be a monitor, everyone has one" so that the desktop price is lower than it would be lol.

I even have about 6 monitors extra laying in my room that I don't use, but plan to use mounted around my house I'm moving into soon for few purposes, or just bundle them with desktops I fix to make a little more.

you can pick up a cheap keyboard and mouse combo for $10, cheapest monitor is around $50. so yea $60 isnt much of a diff when you have to pay $500 plus just to achieve the same performance on a laptop as compared to a desktop
but i mean "preferences" amirite? kappa

Well, for gaming, you'd want a more decent keyboard at least. The mouse doesn't have to be the best, a $10-$20 one would be great enough for longevity and enough precision. The keyboard, you should go for something better than a kroger/walmart board thats $10, but instead something aroun $20(eBay)-$50.

The monitor, depending on res and size, the price would be $50-$150.

You can build a decent desktop very cheap if you know how to buy used parts at a great value and such, a gaming laptop is for a more simplistic approach.

By your reasoning, why would ANYONE buy a laptop over a desktop then?
Why not just pick up a $50 C2D w/ monitor, keyboard, mouse, low end gpu for $100-$150 extra? You'd have more upgrading space, more power, etc.

Same can be said for ios vs android pretty much.

We aren't saying gaming laptops are perfect, but they are better than Macbooks still :)

I don't understand "portability" as a reason to waste money on a laptop? What kind of space constraints do you have where you can't manage to put a small desk somewhere? I understand you can't carry a desktop to a lecture but there's this thing in your pocket called a phone and it does the same thing a laptop would while simultaneously taking up, ironically enough, less space.

Imagine typing a paper on a phone though. I've tried, I hated it.

Same for a tablet.

People who get laptops usually travel often, so they'd lik eto take their work with them, for business trips, concerts, etc.

But, that does mostly appeal to businessmen & businesswomen.

For an average person, usually young adults, teens, and kids would want a laptop over desktop. So, ages 19 and under mostly.

If you move around the house often, that's a good reason, but you could also grab a chromebook and use remote desktop from your desktop. Not great for gaming, but would be enough for usually computer uses.

I'm against laptops for gaming, only exception would be if you travel OFTEN. As in, everyday.

Gaming Laptops are pretty neat in feel & look, but it's also like getting a $10,000 watch vs a $20-$50 watch.
Or a $5,000 designer phone vs the normal version, at around $300-$700 (If used/new)

People have done it, but then you'd have to do more work, and get a large battery to use for it if you want it as a laptop-kind of device.

You can use a touch screen panel for it lol. They're much cheaper today than a couple years ago when people wanted to do it more.
