Flashing light on mobo?

When I turn my pc off I have a light that flashes pretty often. I think it's on the mobo. Any idea what it is or how to turn it off?

RE: Flashing light on mobo?

We'd need more information to know what it is and how to solve it. Lol

RE: Flashing light on mobo?

Alright. When I get home I'll pop open the case and take a picture.

Did you build it yourself or was it a prebuilt?
Do you know the motherboard model?
I'm sure you can check it the BIOS or device manager, as knowing that would help a ton without having to take time to open up your case

I suspect that if it a recent motherboard, perhaps one of those lights would suggest a disc scanning function. Perhaps your SSD/HDD is on the verge of dying?

That doesn't make sense since he said it lights up when his computer is powered off, the disc drive wouldn't be running for the motherboard to check stuff like that

Are hard drive checking motherboards even a thing now?

RE: Flashing light on mobo?

Rundus I built it myself. It is a MSI Z170A GAMING M5 LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard. I kinda forgot about checking that. I should do that tomorrow.

Yes, they are. But in light of what you said, disregard my post. A thought just struck me, could it be the motherboard battery dying out?

RE: Flashing light on mobo?

I just got the motherboard like a few months ago so I don't think it should be dying.

Does the computer run alright? Does performance seem to be lower than it should? What color is the blinking light?
If you've got the manual for the motherboard I'd give that a read as well, since it might tell you what the light is for.
I wish I could help more, but there's a lot of information that I don't know, or even know to ask since I'm just a rookie at this stuff.
