Would you consider black and white shads or colors?

I was taught that they were shades in art class...however for day to day speech i refer to them as colors.

I've never heard anyone use 'Shades' for black and white. I use colours :D

And then you have those peeps who say u cant have black/white as a favourite colours coz its not a colour... sigh..

Many things contextually, will have a different meaning. Another example is when to call something a film or a movie.
