RE: Increasing FPS

Turn down graphics could help. Depends on computer specs and game.

RE: Increasing FPS

Apps aren't going to help you increase FPS, all they do is turn off processes you could do by yourself in task manager, while running in the background and mostly likely hindering fps. When gaming make sure to have close any apps you aren't using and then go into your processes and do the same. And like Phoenix said decrease graphics setting in game, things like motion blur or anti aliasing being off or on the lowest setting usually increase fps.

RE: Increasing FPS

Actually an app can help you increase fps. An example would be MSI Afterburner or any other GPU overclocking tool.

RE: Increasing FPS

HiAlgo Boost/Switch could possibly help out, I've used it before.

RE: Increasing FPS

The drop in performance is roughly linear, and it is proportional to the number of pixels your hardware is driving. Thus, if you are not getting an adequate framerate at 2560×1440, then drop to 1920×1080. The number of pixels is reduced by about 44%, but the performance will improve by about 40%. Going from 1920×1080 to 1600×900 is a 30% drop in pixel count, but will give you about a 20% boost in framerate. Lowering the resolution will make your game look more pixelated, but that might be a necessary sacrifice in order to run the game at an acceptable framerate.

I took the question as if he doesn't have a gaming a rig. Overclocking wont help in that case, but if he has a rig then you're right, overclocking apps will help. But for a stock laptop or desktop, i don't think its good for the hardware to overclock.
