(No idea if this has been done before) We recently had an open mic event which went smooth like butter and it got me thinking, why not have a gaming setup event?

This is a gaming community so I think it's safe to assume most people have some sort of setup for gaming right? 

What if you got users to submit a picture of their set up/gaming rig and you could just have a contest using the pictures or... 

You could have the users and audience go in the event VC and talk about their rig and what they have and why they have it using the pictures to show what they're talking about.

 

Ultimately this is up to the staff so I'd like to hear any opinions. (otherwise it's just me screaming into an empty void)

Having a bunch of socially awkward people from all over the world introducing themselves is pretty dang cringy too and believe me today was no exception. That being the case I can't say I agree with you there however I do agree that it may attract people just trying to show off. I'll admit I never considered that before.

This. Plus just seems kinda dumb...tbh like "Oh I got a gtx 1070 water cooled with sdasadafjdsfsndadasd" seems kinda boring tbh even for the most tech enthusicastic people.

This is why event organiser isn't an easy job, lol.
You must consider every possible angle and learn to argue your points in hypothetical situations before making a proposition. Otherwise you'll be shut down and ridiculed.

I think the gaming set-up idea would be a bit odd outside of like a thread but I think something like an open mic or games involving you to be active posting in chat and in voice.
