I personally upgraded my graphics card and processor for VR! I didn't need to upgrade the processor but I opted to mainly for more power and the giggles. I went from an I5 to an I7. The graphics card was upgraded from a GTX680 to a GTX1070 Ti. I even installed a liquid cooling kit for the processor because I heard that the I7 was like a space heater.
