Honestly, I have only played the first one, and that's within the last week. Though I have had quite some interest in Dark Souls 3, mainly the story, which is what got me into playing the first game in the first place (because I had already gotten in for free on Xbox awhile back). From what I have heard, it will be taking some of the best mechanics from DS 2&3 and applying them to the first, like graphics and PvP, which honestly makes me willing to buy it just for that. Something that I have noticed while playing is that as a very new player, it is difficult to deal with invaders and certain aspects, such as when me and a friend were trying to summon one another, but neither of us could see the summon markings on the ground (yes, we were using the white soapstone). From the small bit that I've played, it was really fun, and I feel like playing the remastered version will be much better.

By infamous, I'm not saying it's trash, wrong meaning. I'm saying, it's notorious for being one of the most difficult games. That's the infamous definition I was going for.
