No argument, Strategy Turn based and RTS games are the best. Games like Stellaris and Hearts of iron 4 are amazing.

OK, my favorite genre of games broadly is Strategy.  More specifically I have a soft spot for any fantasy card game, and really and card game.  Out side of vidya games, I love chess and poker.  I also adore playing free web browser games of all types and all qualities.  But anyway, in attempted order of interest (difficult to delineate), here we go....

Strategy - Poker [RL], Chess [RL], and recently Plague Inc. [PC]
TCG - Magic The Gathering [RL and PC]
Racing Simulation - Gran Turismo Franchise [PS]
FPS - Counterstrike 1.5, source, and CS:GO [PC]
Simulation - Original Simcity, and City Skylines (no "sims", ugh) [PC]
Sandbox - Minecraft (a crappy free web game called sandbox2 is a close second) [PC]
CCG - War Of Omens [PC] (I play this one through Kongregate)
Puzzle - Tetris [Nin] (tough to pick on in this broad category)
RPG - Fallout franchise [PS3 and PC] (edged out Star Ocean, warcraft 1, 2, and 3)
MMO - WoW [PC] for a long time.   Now I like Black Desert Online [PC]
MOBA - top down - LoL [PC], 3rd person, Smite [PC]
Side Fighter - Tekken 3 [PS]
Vehicular Combat - Crossout [PC]
2d Platformer - Super Mario Bros. [Nin]
Ninja/Stealth - Tenchu [PS]
Arcade Style Racing - FL4TOUT (Flatout 4) [PC]
Mech Warfare - Mech Warrior [PC]
