5 reasons why fallout 76 flopped so hard:
1.They remove quests so basically you just roaming around looking for stuff and cant go on adventures.
2. The character customisation is the same as fallout4
3. The game has many bugs,lags and clearly isn't finished 
4. You can only carry a little amount of items and need to fast travel a lot just to store them and then go back to collect more
5. The game has to many bugs and glitches and in multiplayer u can kill your friends without having any punishment for teamkilling etc.

Fallout 76 was good, but all of your points are still valid. I just thought fuccing around with friends and killing them was fun

Well they don't really have legit NPCs, just multiplayer only, and the stories are needed to be discovered by reading through terminals and such, which no one really likes it.
I like Fallout 4 better tbh, 76 just feels like it was rushed and devs were too focused on the graphics rather than creating over hundreds of NPCs.
