Instead, I am filled with a hollow disappointment.Probably because the Minecraft download f**ked up, and I have now paid for it, yet, they say I haven't.

Make sure you download the legit launcher and put your username and password in, click options, then the "Force Update" button, it will re-download the game, and probably fix your problem.
