Though the circumstances in which I received this "advice" was quite horrible, its probably the best advice I was given.
"The world doesn't give a fuck about you. Don't act like we care about you when we clearly don't give a shit."

This helped me a lot through life, it helped me become independent and become who i am today. Though it doesn't seem helpful, it was to me years ago
