This is a good one.

The police once came across a unique case. Reports say wealthy business man had committed suicide. When the police came to the residence, they inspected the study with the mans dead body. He owned many books, many of them first edition classics. The room was littered with beautiful art, and decorative statues. It was clear this man lived a wealthy and enjoyable life. On the mahogany desk, his body laid sprawled out over the table with his left hand rested on a pistol. The gunshot wound in his head indicated that the bullet entered through the left and went out the right side of his skull at a reasonable angle to be self inflicted.

In his right hand lie a small tape recorder. Playing it back, the police heard the confessions of a con-artist and inside trader in the stock market. He also detailed his children's hatred for him after he had cheated on his wife as a motive for his suicide. The tape then played a large gunshot sound and a subsequent thump of his body on the desk. This disturbed the rookie cop to the point of sickness. as he had never been involved in a case like this before. Looking through the letters on his desk, the rookie read a letter from his wife about how she and the kids left him.

"Well, I guess its just a suicide. Lets get rid of the bod-" The rookie cop was interrupted by the older, more experienced cop. "No, we need to start looking for the killer."

How did the veteran cop know immediately after viewing the crime scene it was a homicide?
