It would depend how he did it.

It is pretty easy to convince windows how much battery you have, I ran an application on my laptop at school to make it always show 100% to Windows, but I would know how much battery it had left. I did this because the power settings were set to make the computer hibernate at 15% battery, which was sofa-king annoying, since it had no warning and just turned off. -__-
The ignorant teachers wouldn't fix it, so I fixed it myself. :lol:

I'd say he probably had it plugged in, and unplugged it. Windows isn't too smart at reading the batteries and got confused.

Nope, got to my wood work class, opened the netbook and checked the battery, no plugins no hax (Storm) nothing just stupid Windows.
