need help on picking a computer.

My Girlfriend is starting school next year for graphic design and the majority of the time she will be using adobe to either fiddle with pictures or make videos. Now we have been looking into iMac's to get as I have been told Mac's are made for that type of media crap. I'm not the best with computers and such so figured I'd ask around here so far I'm looking at a iMac with these specs

Intel core i7 2.8GHz
8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
1TB Serial ATA Drive
AMD Radeon HD 6770M graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR5 memory

So if anyone know's what spec's that would work the best, cheaper is always better :). I just need something that will run all her editing programs and no be choppy as hell.

So any input would be apreciated so far I have priced an iMac at 2100$ I want the 21.5"screen aswell.

Re: need help on picking a computer.

You could go with a custom build with similar specs for half the price.

This is a laptop, i'm assuming.

It'd be much cheaper to go with windows, you could get an equally good computer for much less.
Apple really isn't actually better in media, its just more student-friendly somehow. Its stereotyped to being used for media, since that's what students usually do.

Re: need help on picking a computer.

You all know so much about computers, how about sitting in the corner while the big boys talk though?

How is Mac any form of computer?
Mac, aren't better for anything media related.

Okay, so I made a computer, well got the specs for one, the computer being extremely over the top.
i7 3930k (6 Core) 3.2GHz
32GB Corsair Dominator (1600 MHz)
GTX 550 Ti
1TB Caviar Black (7200 RPM)

It cost $1900 ... All parts, like I said, I went completely over the top.
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=18953952">https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySa ... D=18953952</a><!-- m -->

But, realistically, unless she wants a Mac, just for the "I have a Mac" bragging rights, then get her the Mac, or get a proper computer.
I may have missed something? I don't know, still half asleep here, hopefully that NewEgg list works for you, just suggesting, I mean that PC is only slightly over the top. If you want I can make something a bit more realistic, which will be a bit cheaper.

Mac are (extremely) overpriced, you're paying for the "brand".
They are not better for anyone, or anything, except idiots and hipsters.
