<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/what-is-svchostexe-and-why-is-it-running/">http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows- ... t-running/</a><!-- m -->
Helps?
<EDIT> You may have heard of .dll files or noticed them but if you haven't, they are files that .exe's need to run properly. They can also only be run by an .exe using them. Windows itself actually needs these as well, but it needs an .exe to use them, so it makes svchost.exe
the reason behind svchost.exe is because instead of all the executables for services like windows xp has... when windows vista came out they had made it without all these .exe and had started using .dll now .dll needs a .exe to run... for those who have heaps svchost.exe running... it just means you have a lot of services running at the time and it needs more than one .exe to run them so it makes heaps... about 30% of the services are useless though so you don't really need them...
