Steam is a pain in the ***

I am sick of Steam at the moment.

With new games on order that require Steam, I need this problem fixed! The new Skyrim patch and Red Faction Armageddon are stuck as 'downloading'.

This is what I have had to put up with for 5 months. And the only solution I am given is to reinstall Windows and then reinstall all my games, programs and backed up files.

I can't get a straight answer from anyone on the interwebs. Reinstalling Windows will be extreme last resort.

Please help!!!!!

I see it downloading, at a slow rate, but still downloading, at 8bps. It shouldn't be anything with your computer's problem. It may relate to your internet problems, capping your bandwidth limit, router/modem not functioning properly. There's plenty of reason, but I'm aiming it on your internet.

Re: Steam is a pain in the ***

It's definitely my PC. Mainly because

1) I have tried on different networks, and
2) I have tried on the same network with both another Windows 7 PC and a Windows 8 virtual machine running on my PC

i think it is your connection. When I have the same problem as you. It was my connection. Not my computer.

Re: Steam is a pain in the ***

No, it is not my connection. The virtual machine is running on the PC affected. Steam can download properly in the VM, but not normally without using the VM. Steam Support said it is a Windows problem, so that is probably the case. I am probably just going to get Windows 7 fixed then upgrade to Win 8 anyway.
