Yeah, it's a commonly observed phenomenon, if you constantly/regularly keep versing way better people at the game, your skillz would improve exponentially in about 1-3 months if you are a player with true potential.

Examples where this has worked out completely and the learner defeated his mentor -
1.Stinger and Bender (Stinger eventually owned Bender in a span of about 3 months) [This is as I heard from Vader]
2. Me and Vader (I joined SmG @ Jan 27, "just" defeated Vader (15-14) in Mid May)
3. Some other cases of people whom I know...

In fact, Dagger asked me for a 1v1 almost everyday when I had internet and I've seen Dagger get to 25-12-15 from 25-5/7, but then again this only happened for about a month.

The more you play with those that are way better than you. The better you'll get :D. That's how i improved to a 100% nub, to an over an average player with 20 sens. :D Then i beat Mystic 25 - 24 when he was using a controller and he was using dub shots and aim assist. You should've seen his reaction. :lol: The last 1v1 i ever did in H2V until it got corrupted was against unKnowN. 24 - 25. He won.

I use to play with Oldspritz (mostly in Cloud CTF) and Static everyday when my h2v was working. Which helped me improve a lot.
