Also, idk if i'm right, but from what i understand from the quote of the Sniper Elite forum, it seemed that the company paid for the servers(i never have played sniper elite so idk if i'm wrong). In halo, player can host the servers without Gamespy servers.

no u nub, people host servers. But GameSpy hosts the servers that allow you to connect to those peoples servers. Its like this, Cloud's servers are up, but because GameSpy's aren't you cant connect to any servers in game. Ever.
