That is exactly what I proposed. You suggested that there had to be an immense energy source to initiate the spread. I suggest that instability is the energy source. As is true for almost ALL exergonic (energy releasing) reactions.
Basically. Universe in an unstable single entity, receives small amount of energy, similar to the influence of a pin drop. That energy is enough to allow the Universe to unfold, releasing massive amounts of heat and quantum fluctuation (energy). Which is precisely what is represented by the image you posted.
But alas, theories are theories.
