Gun laws are as tight as a never touched butthole. You need a licence, background checks and a reasonable reason, plus you must have a safe bolted to cement with the ammunition in another safe somewhere else in the house, plus both safes are wired to an alarm.

If it was tightened those with a criminal history wouldn't be able to get guns legally off of the government, over a month or two (don't know how slow your cops are) the 'black market' dealers will be caught and won't be able to purchases and thus sell guns, therefore a majority of the criminals won't actually have any.

Using your logic, why don't we ban baseball bats, knives, cars, water, fire, ropes, chains, spikes, needles, electricity, and any other "weapon" in existence. Anything can kill someone! But only someone fucked up in the head can murder someone (outside of war).

Police can carry firearms. And in Australia, as long as you got a license, you can use that to hunt.
