Money, a stable job, medical and educational benefits, a good start to adulthood, provides you with tools and skills, some want to take a life, some want to serve, some people do it to get off the streets. There is a multitude of reasons why people join, however, staying in or re-enlisting is beyond me other than if you have a family to support.

Maybe it's just an interest in national safety and warfare.

was thinking the same thing, for a lot of people it's been a dream to be in the army since they were kids.
my brother went to the military, he dreamed of it since he were 12.
ended up going home 4 days later though, wasn't like he thought it would be.

what is the reason for people joining the military ? other than serving the country , are there any  other reasons why people join air force , navy , army , marines etc

Well according to me, different kinds of people join army :

1) People who are highly patriotic and loves their country like f*.

2)People who are athletic and wanna spend their lives in this field of expertise.

3)People who are loners and don't have any particular dream.

4) People who are sadistic and that likes to kick some butt.

Many countries military have job training and job placements in the military which also have civilian counterparts
Some jobs suck 
Some jobs are kick ass 

Plus educational benefits and earning credentials
 
And military experience and security clearance are pretty valued (e.g defence contractors)
And the allowances as well 

Sure drills can be unpleasent and PT can be too 

But that's military !

Mostly for the money to say the least, but it also trains you to be well disciplined. To look after your buddies and learn how to react in emergency situations.
Also shows a sign of patriot, you love your country and willing to fight for it.

But there's also a bad side of it, if you get deployed in real situations, you might ended up injured if you're not careful enough, or have the first time shooting someone etc that haunts you. Basically gives you an aftershock. But what do I really know? Never been into one, yet.
