Re: Religion?

Nebula- to answer your question about the formation of the earth today from the THEORIZED ball of lava has to do with a mix of complicated inorganic and organic chemistry reactions. I don't want to get into specifics, but the THEORY behind it is somewhat sound (the formation of a earthen planet with a molten core that is). The actual manifestation of the first archaebacterial micro-organism is the part that people find the most problems with.
I stress THEORY because as you said, none of this has been proven. However I'd like to point out that nothing that no theology of any kind has been proven. I'd also like to note that languages have vastly changed from the time that religious manifests were first derived, and that the likelihood of a mistranslation during the THOUSANDS of times they were reprinted by hand (until the invention of the printing press around 1440). This is why I personally don't choose to base my beliefs off teachings within a book. Again, that is why they are all THEORIES of how we came to exist.
I mean no disrespect to anyone. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, I just thought I'd spout some scientific theory for a bit.

Re: Religion?

the problem with that theory is that that means we will not be able to even live on earth because things you said about metrials is toxic so no that theory is just not true.

Re: Religion?

Not necessarily. Carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxide are poisonous and exist in varying concentrations throughout our atmosphere. It's entirely possible that the climate change from molten to crust caused a decrease in poisonous components of our atmosphere and an increase in breathable oxygen diatomic gas.
Along with fact that any molecules existing already would be more likely to form because they are no longer subjected to the intense heat of the molten metal core of the planet.

Re: Religion?

I agree. The main similarity with theological and evolutionary science is that they are both THEORIES. Neither can be proven or disproven, hence the title theory. When it comes to concentrations of CO, CO2, and NO2, nature has natural filters for those poisonous gases...such as plants, taking sunlight, water, and co2 to make glucose and oxygen. I lean more towards evolution than religion due to the fact I can see evolution.

Re: Religion?

lets just go way back during the big bang. you have to admit that you need lot's of energy to do so. even the scientist admitted that. it just can't happen by it self trust me. and nothing can make this hole thing so complexed that we did not even know 1% of it. also religion motivates people to study many things. to see how it was made.

Re: Religion?

The big bang may have taken way less energy than you think.
Think about it in terms of reactivity.
In chemistry we learn that certain reactions take a certain amount of "activation energy". This activation energy has to be overcome before even the most exergonic reactions take place. Think about the entire universe contained as a singularity, and then by some small push the activation energy is reached, releasing a massive amount of energy, enough to spread the universe to an infinite length. The activation energy could be as small as a joule. In that sense, it is entirely possible.
Think of the E_a as the activation energy for the unfolding of the singularity.
The energy difference between the product (the universe) and the starting material (a singularity) would be MUCH more drastic.
Again. This is a theory.

Re: Religion?

@Nebula-....so does biology aka the study of life...
It is true that the amount of energy needed for the big bang would be immense, but, once again, the big bang is a theory. In some ways, I don't really care how we got here...for no matter who is right, we are all still here on the same planet. We all have our opinions and for all I know I'm dead wrong, but until I'm proven wrong or something more logical comes along, I shall believe what I believe.

Re: Religion?

activation energy? there was no activation energy in the big bang. the theory of the big bang was that some sort of energy had to spread because of it was just to strong to hold it together. so it made an big explosion of energy that is called the big bang.

study this diagram
this proves it
[Image: cosmos_history_dumbbell.jpg]
and you are right Psych, it is a theory. but i want to prove this theory wrong. that is why i am saying this. and also. biology is religion. and and i believe this
[Image: Allah_Is_One_by_maniPakistani.jpg]
and no one can change my path. a peaceful one.
i am done here. i respect all of the peoples religion. it keeps us going.
